The plan was to buy an assembled, collapseable stock lower by DPMS for about 280 bucks. Well, they only carried Rock River Arms lowers, but the price was only a 40 dollar difference and from what I've heard about RRA, the extra 40 bucks is worth it. Lucas went on the trip with me and he was checking out AR15s himself, then he later decided on an AK, then finally decided upon a SigArms 556 rifle. He said he may use them as an FFL, which would probably work for me since Orion is about the only gunshop I even go to anymore.
I always forget to ask the guys name, but theres this guy with a beard that works there that always pounces on me and he's gotten me to buy lots of shit there, he's probably the nicest and most informative gunshop dude I've encountered in my travels and is one of the reasons that place gets my business.
ANYWAY...
Rock River Arms AR-15 Civilian Model/Car stock (with mil-spec trigger group)
Cost after taxes was $343
Stock type is six position standard retractable, comes with sling loop
I can't stress enough to anyone who reads this shit that buying an unassembled ar-15 (that is buying the upper and lower seperate) is THE BEST way to go when buying one, because the firearms tax is higher than standard sales tax, and the cheaper the gun the cheaper the tax. By buying a 300 dollar bottom end i saved quite a lot since a fully assembled gun costs 800-1000 dollars. The top end is not counted as a firearm because it does not house the trigger group, is not serialized, and is counted as an accessory, therefore it is not taxed as a firearm.
Anyway, DPMS flattop upper is coming in a few short weeks with a magpul MOE conversion kit...stay posted.
I'm cute.
